New Shops carrying my artwork!

I am very excited to have my work sold in two very wonderful shops in Cincinnati. The quality of the art in these shops is excellent. The owners are very supportive of the local artists and have great taste in art. I feel blessed to accepted.

Mica is in Over The Rhine and is located one block off Central Parkway. It is a quaint area with restaurants and bars. So when you go to Mica, plan to stick around the area.

Fabricate is in Northside and is full of cute stuff. My orbs are hanging in the shop and look fabulous, Yummy restaurants in Northside, too. Just ask the clerk.

Happy New Year to all! I hope you had a wonderful holiday, as did I. We welcomed a new baby granddaughter just after the new year began. Little Liza and her Mommy, Daddy and big sister are all doing great.

A wonderful blessing like that makes my pottery work look unimportant. However, I am back in the studio creating more porcelain art.

Plans for 2012 include colors for my porcelain. Experimentation starts on Monday with real color. Keep posted for images.

Look for my work in the Clay Alliance Spring Pottery Fair, first weekend of May. Look for new locations to buy my pottery. Listings to follow.

Look out 2012, I am full of ideas and can't wait to see them through.

End of Summer and back in the studio fulltime!

Seems like it was just May and now we are around the corner from Labor Day. Where did the summer go, up in steam is my answer. Boy, it was so hot in Cincinnati.

I spent the summer celebrating milestones with family, marketing, and planning. The past 2 weeks I have been back in the studio on a full time basis. Feels great to be in the grove again.

Check out my newest piece in the 'work in progress' portion of my blog. I have 3 new lamps (bells) The one pictured is a relief sculpture of the nativity scene, with shepards, animals, the Bethleham star, wise men, angels, Bethleham, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. I am using a new porcelain and am excited to see the viscosity (luminous quality). I will have the results within a month.

The second one is a large flower pod. The third is relief sculptures of scenes from the new testament. Each scene dipicts a woman's personal experience with Jesus. The Woman at the well, the woman healed by touching Jesus' garment, the women who found the tomb empty, etc. I have to stop for the weekend and will finish it on Monday. Very exciting!

My art is now in the retail gallery at Meier Wine Cellar Meier Wine Cellar in beautiful downtown Silverton. Great display and I hope you can get over here and check it out!

I will be a featured artist at the Cincinnati Art Museum, December 3 during family time. I am honored to be a part of an art museum which I patronize and enjoy!

I have been busy with porcelain and am now able to share with you what I have been up to. These pieces are charming me as I discover new ways to sculpt each one. I have placed them in the Chillicothe Pumphouse and Meier's Wine Cellar in Silverton. I hope you will be able to get out to see them. I will have them in Rabbit Hash along with selected bowls, mugs, and vases.

I will be offering them as Christmas ornaments as well. Imagine these hanging from your tree this year.

I have been distracted from the blogsite while I am intently creating something new. For the past 3 months I have been studying light effect, porcelain properties and challenging myself to create images that are interesting.

These porcelain bells are carved to emit light and cast shadows on the pure white exterior. So far I have built cities out of my imagination, copied pictures of houses, buildings and castles, sliced the clay into repeated patterns and tackled a 3 piece nativity scene.

My dream is to make these as they please me and sell them to whom they also please. I also wish to make them to order. For instance I made a townsquare of buildings and included a home which is in the town. It was well received by the owner of the home.

Would this be something special to give to a newly wed or for a special anniversary or birthday. How about for a retirement party. A bell could be carved with a business, favorite vacation site, summer home, etc.

Teapots before and after the kiln!

Here are my four teapots, raw clay and then after glazed and fired in the reduction kiln. The glaze is blue red celadon. The color changes depending on where the flames touch the pot resulting in these variations. I love the reds, but the green is so Asian! Each pot has a built-in strainer for loose tea. If you like what you see, let me know.

My talents as a photographer have hit a wall with glossy pottery. The blues, greens and reds are so vibrant, but so difficult to shoot without having me, my camera and the ceiling fan reflected. This was such a challenge indoors, that I brought them outside to better 'control' the reflection. Enjoy the vessels and the trees.

Sweet pink bisqueware moonlit vases, square round jars, and spotted vessels awaiting their fate in the 2300 degree kilns.

I just had to share this line up from small to tall the teapots stand at attention, barrels ready for their first bisque kiln firing. Such brave soldiers. Perhaps a few of the brave will survive all that is necessary to heat and pour your tea.

I had fun pulling all the clay into a closed form,

setting a knob on the top, then cutting the lid from a one piece form. I love to decorate the dishes so you will be able show up at your next pot luck with not only the best food, but the most original pot. My pecans have made a come back as have my key. What do you think?

Momma mugs for the new Mommy who needs to stay put rocking the baby. This mug is shaped to keep heat in the cup and playfully designed with letters for teaching the baby or entertaining Mom. What words can you make out of the letters?

My first attempt to add charm to serving bowls. The round feet stagger to create a tilt in the bowl. The color varies from greens to pinks as the flames of the reduction kiln absorbed oxygen from the glazes.

My patchwork vases. Each section has a unique pattern and design. I use reliefs and stamps which I made. Every side is completely different.

The raw clay turns toasty in the reduction kiln and the differnent shades of black set off the reliefs.

Here are views of the same vase. I am planning to make more vases with one or two of the patterns filling the whole vase. I would love to know if you have a favorite pattern.

Multi tasking canister will also chill a bottle of wine. These were donated to help raise money for a missions trip to south Africa.

Flowers everywhere. Bold and beautiful, This set is designed to look as though the clay has been wrapped around the thrown pieces and indeed they have been. This is a multi step process that requires wheel thrown clay, rolled clay, cut out clay, attaching clay, decorating with slip and tiny flowers. The two larger pieces will easily fit even the large bottles of wine, champaign or ice. The piece in the middle will be happy to hold flowers for the occassion.

Clay-va-tar mug series

Here is a set of what I like to refer to as the Clay-va-tar series.

Each of the mugs have original creatures and botanical gardens surviving in a parallel universe under a hazy warm atmosphere.

A family of creatures keep a watchful eye on the little one who hurries ahead full of energy. Stalks that seem to have eyes, are they plant or animals?

The glaze inside of the mug flow with a range of colors from dark brown to aqua crystal. I have created a smooth teature of swirling clay under your hands.

Beach mugs

The beach mugs are designed with 1 - 1/2 million year old shells molded and applied as pocelain over orange stone mugs resulting in a sandy beach motif. The glaze is applied so as to resemble the waves crashing on to shore. While these particular mugs are sold I have more on deck in different mug shapes.

Joe's Green bottles

Three bottles crying out for Bourbon whiskey, Scotch and some homemade wine. The exterior sports a rough texture aged by the reduction kiln and the toasted brown of orange stone clay melding through the surface. Ornamental buttons finish off the fine flavor of a good bottle of liquor.

One is sold - This cute couple are made with the same glaze called Malcolm Shino. When fired in a reduction kiln the effects are created by the flame of an open fire collecting oxygen from the melting glaze. The colors can range from pal yellow through bright orange and from mossy green to black. In these two mugs you can see almost the full range of possible colors.
